Amendments to the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
On June 16, 2025, Ontario Regulation 50/25 introduced several important amendments to the Rules of Civil Procedure, aimed at refining the process for approving settlements involving parties with disabilities.
The regulation also expands the scope of Rule 49, extending its settlement provisions to apply to motions, counterclaims, crossclaims, and third or subsequent party claims.
In addition, the rules governing partial settlement agreements have been updated to include new definitions, enhanced disclosure requirements, and the mandatory use of Form 49E.
These significant developments in Ontario civil litigation are now fully incorporated into the By Lawyers Civil Litigation guides.
